Elizabeth Ann CRAMPTON m. 1.Alfred Ambus BLOOMFIELD 1881 |
| Elizabeth Ann was the baby of the
Crampton family; born at Kyneton, Victoria, in 1863, 5
years after the arrival of the family on the 'Castilian',
at Melbourne. Future events were to show she held a special place in her parents hearts. William's obituary illustrated his keen interest in horses and thoroughbred racing especially. This was to lead to Elizabeth's first marriage at the age of 18, to Alfred Ambus Bloomfield (also registered as Ambrose Ambres) who was a jockey. It is easy to see Elizabeth spending time around the stables, grooming horses, riding them and enjoying the company of the stable hands and jockeys. And on race days she would be the first aboard the sulky to accompany her father to the course. William, being an owner would regularly be in the saddling paddock, with Elizabeth beside him. Her sweet, girlish beauty would have made her popular with the jockeys, and it was not long before it was especially the case with 'Alf' Bloomfield. They married at Wagga Wagga, NSW, in 1881. September 1882 saw their happiness complete with the arrival of Elizabeth Martha who quickly won the heart of her grandfather. However the happiness was to be short lived when, in 1884, after sweating in a steam box, to lose weight, Alfred had a heart attack and died, leaving a pregant wife to mourn his passing. Elizabeth awaited the arrival their second child at 'Newlands' and her arrival she was named Alfreda Ambrosine, in honour of her deceased father. Elizabeth Martha, the first born, died in 1893 and her fond grandparents provided a headstone and surround at the Church of England sector of Forbes NSW cemetery. Her grandparents William & Mary Ann are buried just behind her grave. Alfreda married Karl Victor Sundelius, a Swedish immigrant and the only person of that name to have settled in Australia. | The restriction of being a single Mum,
living with her parents, was a great change to her life
with Alfred and being still a young and attractive woman,
it wasn't long before the bees surrounded the honey pot. In 1887, at the age of 24 years Elizabeth marched into matrimony for the second time with Thomas Stone. Elizabeth(5) and Alfreda(3) soon had a little sister; Mary Ann being born in the following year. For the next five years 'Newlands' echo to girlish laughter and running feet however in 1893 a gloom was cast when Elizabeth Martha died, at the age of 10 years and 9 months. She was buried in CoE cemetery, Forbes and when her grandfather died in 1902, he was buried with her. Ivy, in1895 and Lillian,1896 arrived and soon the absence of little Elizabeth faded into the background. There family was completed when the first boys, William and Dallas were born. Elizabeth and Thomas had the following children. |
